My Story & Approach

Welcome. I'm Dr. Sarah Mitchell, and I believe that every person deserves a space where they can be heard, understood, and supported without judgment. My journey into mental health began over 15 years ago when I realized the profound impact that genuine human connection and skilled therapeutic intervention can have on someone's life.

After experiencing my own transformative therapy experience during a difficult period in my twenties, I knew I wanted to provide that same gift of healing to others. This personal experience taught me that vulnerability is not weakness—it's the birthplace of courage, creativity, and change.

My Philosophy

"Healing happens in relationship. When we feel truly seen, heard, and accepted, we create the safety needed for authentic transformation. My role is to walk alongside you as you rediscover your inherent strength and wisdom."

With over 12 years of clinical experience, I've had the privilege of walking alongside individuals and couples through some of life's most challenging moments—from anxiety and depression to complex trauma, relationship struggles, and major life transitions. What continues to inspire me is witnessing the incredible resilience of the human spirit and the capacity we all have for growth and healing.

My Therapeutic Approach

I believe in an integrative, client-centered approach that honors your unique experience and draws from evidence-based practices.

Trauma-Informed Care

Understanding how trauma affects the brain and body, I create a safe environment where healing can naturally unfold. Using EMDR and somatic approaches, we'll work gently with your nervous system to process difficult experiences.

Mindfulness & Somatic Work

Our bodies hold wisdom and memories. Through mindfulness practices and body awareness, we'll help you reconnect with your inner guidance and develop tools for emotional regulation.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT provides practical tools to understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we'll identify patterns that no longer serve you and develop healthier coping strategies.

Relational Therapy

Healing happens in relationship. Our therapeutic relationship becomes a safe space to explore patterns, practice new ways of relating, and experience what it feels like to be truly seen and accepted.

Beyond the Office

When I'm not in session, you'll find me hiking the trails around San Francisco Bay, practicing yoga, or curled up with a good book and my rescue dog, Luna. I'm an avid gardener (there's something deeply healing about nurturing growth!), and I love exploring the connection between nature and mental wellness.

I believe in practicing what I preach—I prioritize my own mental health through therapy, meditation, and staying connected with loved ones. This commitment to my own wellbeing ensures I can show up fully present for my clients.

"The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are." - Joseph Campbell

This quote guides my work—helping you discover and embrace your authentic self.
